Ashe County Cheese is Carolina’s oldest cheese plant, operating since 1930 in the scenic Blue Ridge Mountains. Hillfarm is a small-scale, family-run regenerative farm just outside Greeneville. Everything they produce is 100% chemical-free and non-GMO, from their soil-sprouted greens to their baked goods. Their sweets (like their very popular hand-crafted donuts) are sweetened with raw honey and avoid refined sugars, refined flours, and harmful seed oils. Hillfarm also uses organic seed, OMRI-rated soil, and farm-fresh eggs & coconut butter in their baking. In time, they plan to offer pasture-raised pork and lamb.

Muddy Pond Sorghum, run by the Guenther family, produces 100% pure sorghum syrup from their own cane with no additives. Located midway between Nashville and Knoxville, they also offer pure honey and sorghum barbecue sauce, and you can watch them make syrup in their mill during September & October. Besides the mill, there’s the Muddy Pond Variety Store, local festivals, and a horse-or mule-driven mill for special events.
